Your Identity

You define your identity xo

Who are you? It’s easy to explain what you do – I’m a Mum, Wife, Health Coach, and I can tell you what attributes I have – I work hard to achieve my goals, I’m kind, curious, I come from a place of love, I’m a good listener and I want you to live the best life you can.

But who are you? At our core, we’re a soul – that thing we know is there but we can’t see or touch. Much like anger, love, frustration, happiness – it’s something we know is there but we can’t see or touch it.

Our human bodies feel those emotions, and can act out in according to those emotions – smiling at someone, giving them a hug, crying, punching someone, but much like our soul we can’t physically see and touch it – we have to believe in it.

Our identity is tied to the life we live:

  • Where you live, down to the size of the house and the suburb
  • What you do, are you a secretary or the director of a company or somewhere in between
  • Who you hang out with
  • The type of wine/beer/spirits you drink
  • If you play sport, go hiking, go to the gym or lie on the couch
  • How many times you eat out each week
  • If you drive a car or catch the bus…and even the type of car you drive

Everything in your life talks about your identity and to change our identity we will change every area of our life.

And that scares people.

Imagine the life you live didn’t existing any more.

Imagine you strive for something different:

  • A new home by the beach but you live 3 hours away from it
  • A new career, when everyone else you know is working for an employer and you’re going to work for yourself
  • Choosing to give up alcohol when everyone around you drinks and feels that its ok to comment on the fact that you don’t and tell other people ‘don’t bother offering it to her’

How would you feel?

Would you say ‘yeah let’s do it – this is going to be awesome!!’ Or would you say ‘crap no, I don’t want that much change, just a little bit (maybe) or I’ll just keep doing the same thing I’ve always done – that’s not a bad life.

It’s definitely not a bad life, but is it your best life?

Is it the life you were destined to live?

Is it the life you love waking up for every day?

It’s ok to want to change areas of your life, and its ok to do it slowly – that’s when change is more sustainable. When you change your life slowly, you can choose the direction it takes and you can choose what you change and when, so that your body can catch up with your soul.

When you feel resistant to change or if your want to change a habit or a story in your life but you’re struggling to, ask yourself:

  • Who am I with this thing in my life?
  • Who am I without this thing in my life?
  • Who do I choose to be?

You get to define your identity.
