Ep. 253 – Relinquishment Trauma with Beth Syverson
Beth adopted her son Joey soon after he was born. She was delighted to have created her family and was enjoying parenthood.
As the adoptive parent, she was unaware of the challenges Joey was experiencing because he was adopted until he attempted suicide as a teenager.
This led both Beth and Joey on a journey of discovery, learning to put themselves first and inspiring others to explore the challenges that can come with being adopted.

Beth Syverson is an adoptive parent to a 19yo son Joey. She has been walking beside Joey as he’s struggled with addiction and mental health issues for several years.
They created a podcast together to help other families called Unraveling Adoption Podcast, and Beth has created a support group for adoptive parents called APtitude.
Beth’s eyes were opened about relinquishment trauma AFTER Joey was in crisis, so she’s hoping to catch other parents and help them with these issues sooner.
