Pillars of Health

My Pillars of Health

We all have our own version of what health looks like to us, and I believe that we all have core pillars of health – our foundations that are true for us. I also believe that we have a lot of similarities in our pillars but how we choose to implement them can be different.

Change your inside world

It’s easier to change our outside world, than it is to change our inside world.

  • Getting a new car
  • Buying a new dress
  • Phoning a friend

They’re all amazing thing, but when happiness is an inside job, they don’t cut the mustard if you’re looking for a joy that’s with you all the time.

What if it’s not hard

  • What if losing those last 5kgs is the easiest thing you ever did?
  • What if having an awesome, playful, creative and loving relationship was the easiest thing you ever created?
  • What if building your business into a thriving hub of soulful, inspiring and uplifting people, working the hours that you wanted to work and earning the money you wanted to earn, was the easiest thing you ever did?
  • What if travelling 6,000kms to move to your new home was the most amazing adventure and everything that happened on the way was the most wonderful experience you’ve ever had?

Emotions are exhausting

Recently, I realised I’m rubbish at allowing my emotions to move through my body. I honestly thought I was good at it and then I had this ‘not so good’ emotion, that I pushed away, rather than letting it move through my body – whoops!

Is it the same for you?

I’m open to learning

Each day we have the opportunity to grow and learn. We can let others decide our path for us or we can choose to take responsibility for what we want to create and take action towards it. School taught us to follow direction, life taught us to follow our parents direction and we often continue down that path – in some form or other.

I still have fat days

I still have fat days

We can think, that when we achieve a goal we’ll never feel the way we do right now again.

  • We’ll have slayed the dragon
  • We’ll never have that issue again
  • We’ve moved on into a better life

It’s just not true.

We’re human and human stuff happens.

  • We get sick
  • Someone dies
  • We have to change our plans

Green washing

Are you being green washed?

As we go about our day, clothes, food, jewellery, holidays are all being marketed to us – oh I mean advertised and we can decide if we pay attention or not.

Whether you’re watching the TV – even the channels you pay for, listening to music on Spotify, watching a YouTube video, listening to your favourite podcast, hanging out on social media or visiting your favourite website and then going to social media or to google – only to see the most recent promotion for that movie, restaurant, car etc. you were just checking out.

And you often have to see something 7-10 times before you actually click ‘buy’, so those ads are going to keep coming, but are they being honest with you?

When we see a green tick or rolling hills with a healthy looking cow on the packaging, a succulent burger with lots of veggies placed perfectly on it or an Icelandic Fiord with someone sipping a crystal clear drink next to it – be it water or alcohol, is that truly where its made and under those conditions? This is green washing.

Are they being truthful or are they telling you what you want to hear?

Who are you?

Your Identity

Who are you? It’s easy to explain what you do – I’m a Mum, Wife, Health Coach, and I can tell you what attributes I have – I work hard to achieve my goals, I’m kind, curious, I come from a place of love, I’m a good listener and I want you to live the best life you can.

But who are you? At our core, we’re a soul – that thing we know is there but we can’t see or touch. Much like anger, love, frustration, happiness – it’s something we know is there but we can’t see or touch it.

Our human bodies feel those emotions, and can act out in according to those emotions – smiling at someone, giving them a hug, crying, punching someone, but much like our soul we can’t physically see and touch it – we have to believe in it.

feather, feather, brick

Feather, feather, brick

I like to call this my intuition guiding me and if I don’t follow I get a kick up the butt!

Often we’ll see or feel signs. Something will happen, you’ll see repeat patterns or events and for me more recently it was at a particular location.

I’ve been keen to eat organic vegetables for ages, and I’ve been, somewhat, all talk. I would go to the organic veggie section at my fruit & veg market, but they didn’t have everything I needed so I’d grab them from the non-organic section…99% of the shop.

Now I’m not being hard on myself, I’m being honest with you.

Go organic

What is organic?

Susan, we didn’t have organic in our day, we just ate the fruit and vegetables that were put in front of us.

– Robyn Scollen (my Mum), 2019.

When I googled ‘what is organic’ 1,220,000,000 results came up – that’s a lot of results and a lot of opportunity to go down the rabbit hole, but I’m going to make it easy for you, so let’s dive in.

Yes my Mum’s right, they didn’t have organic in her day – they didn’t need to because in the main, they ate organic. Organic fruits and veg are straight from the farm, without any man-made chemicals or intervention.

She had an uncle turn up at their door every weekend with a box of fruit and veg for them to eat for the week. It had been home grown from multiple family farms and it was distributed to everyone.

Juicy Love

Love what is

To love what is, we can just accept where we’re at and move from that space. We often resist that though, because we’re:

  • Not enough
  • Not worth
  • Not loveable

We wonder how someone can love us when we can’t even love ourselves. We can’t see our own beauty and we sit in judgement, noticing our own faults first.

We choose to see what’s wrong over what’s right. We analysis how we aren’t a nice person, sometimes throwing in…but I can do it sometimes. Kinda off guard, flippant and dismissive.

We love that person because of what they believe about us. How they see us, and then we borrow that belief, because they’re a good person – they can’t be wrong…but perhaps they’re not right all the time, but we choose to believe.

We allow space for that love to grow, we anchor into what feels good and we enjoy the laughter – they see us and this can be scary. This is where vulnerability hurts. We can be vulnerable and risk that they won’t love us any more or we can be vulnerable and not like who we are.

Which one is tougher?

Rise and Grow

K.I.S.S

We know this acronym well but I always struggled with the last S – what about you? I let it slide for a while but something just wasn’t right. Calling myself or someone else ‘stupid’ didn’t make me feel good, so I stopped using the acronym until recently.

When we go on a journey, be it a relationship, weight loss, #selflove, working out, we put in a lot of effort. We turn up for ourselves every day and things that were important to us in the past, can lose their shine, so we let go.

Our journeys to self requires love, patience, kindness and through those things we create a sustainable approach to living. We find that when we create small habit changes, ones that come from love and are guided by our intuition, they anchor into us and we can continue to implement them – long after the decision is made.

The things that happen around us don’t matter so much any more, we see that when we let go of who we were, and we start to be come who we are, we want more – deeper conversations, deeper love, deeper self-respect, deeper alignment. We want to show up for ourselves more and more – regardless of what anyone else thinks.
